JAPAN Adventures [DAY 1]

We took a trip to Japan for 10 days, and that wasn't long enough! I've always wanted to visit Japan. Just hearing all the stories about the transportation, people, and food sold me. To be honest, I tried to convince my hubby to go to Japan for our honeymoon, but he wanted to just find a destination where we can just relax on the beach and do nothing. I like that idea as well. Lol. So, for our one year anniversary, we planned a trip to Japan! Best. Decision. Ever. We both enjoyed it and we want to move there!

 August 24 - Day 1:

We flew out of IAH (Houston airport) bright and early in the morning (around 6am).  We had a layover in Los Angeles for an hour. That was a 4-hour flight. We both fell asleep on the plane. It was a regional plane, so we had the row to ourselves. Finally hopped onto our next plane. Lucky us, we were able to snag some seats in the back that were 2 seat row. I believe the plane ride to Tokyo was 11 hour. Not going to lie, it felt long. I watched a movie and couple TV shows. But mostly, just slept the whole way there.

Snacks: Sandwich with Fruits         Ice cream with rick crackers

Finally, we landed in Tokyo around 2:30PM August 25 at Haneda Airport. It took us about an hour to go through security and customs. By the time we arrived at baggage claim, we spent another 10 minutes trying to find our bags. Someone was already pushing our bags away! We chased after him.

First thing first, we went to go get our JR passes. Then we exchanged USD to Yen. Y'all, it took us about 30 minutes to figure out the train system. We were trying to go to Kyoto, but had to Tokyo Station first to jump on to the Shinkansen train (bullet train). It was the most stressful, hot and humid thing to do. FINALLY we jumped onto the right train. Off we go to Tokyo Station. It was about a 20-minute train ride. When we arrived to Tokyo Station, we were lost AGAIN! (Good thing we took a 40 minute layover for our bullet train. The person helping us book the JR tickets was about to give us an 8-minute layover time).  Woohooo we made it on our train. Basically slept the whole way there. I believe it took us 2 hours to get to Kyoto from Tokyo.

We arrived in Kyoto and took a taxi to our Airbnb. We were going to take the bus, BUT COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHICH BUS TO TAKE OR WHERE THE BUS WAS LOCATED. Even taking the taxi was a struggle because Japanese people don’t use street address. They only know by location of things. We finally made it to our Airbnb. It was soooo hot in the Airbnb. So we decided to let the A/C run while we stroll around looking for dinner.

We walked down a street until we saw something we liked. We spotted a 24-hour Tonkatsu place and decided to give it a try. You order before you seat down through a cash-only vending machine. Good thing for pictures!! When we sat down, they gave us a basket for our bags and tea. The service was fast! The tonkatsu is deep-fried pork cutlet. Like a chicken fried steak? Nope, just super crunchy pork. It was good! After dinner, we walked back to our airbnb and got ready for bed. We slept on a futon, which did not feel good because we could feel the springs. Also, the drainage in the bathroom was draining sooooo slow, so we were freaking out a little bit because we thought the place was going to be flooded. OVERALL, we're so happy to be here in Japan! Goodnight!
